How "Conscience Clauses" don't extend to... →
morninggloria: It’s long, you guys, but I think it’s an important issue. Why are conservatives allowed to refuse to their jobs because of their “conscience,” but pro-choice doctors who believe providing women with abortions and birth control is moral are denied that right by the state?

So we had a big gala last night, and inevitably one of my “jobs” is snagging actors/celebrities at the door to do photos. When I heard Alan Rickman was coming, I imagined this would be my only conversation with him.  Me: Hello Mr. Rickman, it’s so lovely to meet you, thank you for coming. Would you mind taking a few pictures for us? Mr. Rickman: *sigh and glare* Fine. This is...

First Copyright Law in America Does NOT Protect...
perezhamilton: Massachusetts has introduced the first copyright law in the US. Interestingly enough, it prohibits people from making reprints without consent from the owner of the COPY. Basically, the law protects the printer - not the creator of the original. We think we should all just share and let everybody do anything with everybody’s everything. …UGH, okay, you caught us!! We just...

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. • An Illinois House committee that normally deals with farm and wildlife issues passed two controversial anti-abortion measures this afternoon, before a packed room that included opponents wearing t-shirts that stated: “Women are NOT livestock.” One of the bills (HB4117) would impose the same kinds of building standards and other rules on abortion facilities that...

Now It's Illinois' Turn
politicalprof: The House AGRICULTURE Committee in Illinois has now decided transvaginal probe ultrasounds ought to be required in at least some cases when women seek abortions. As my friend Mike Gizzi says: the AGRICULTURE Committee. Because women are apparently cows. And let’s be clear: ALL THIS TO GET A PROCEDURE THAT IS LEGAL! It’s time to stop abusing women in the law. You disappoint...

drst: somepolitics: In a significant decision, the Punjab and Haryana High Court last week ruled that the right to abort a pregnancy in a marriage rests with the wife and not husband. “A woman is not a machine in which raw material is put and a finished product comes out. She should be mentally prepared to conceive, continue the same and give birth to a child. The unwanted pregnancy would...
